The Pañca Maya model explores the 5 layers of the self. It aligns well with the Māori health model of Te Whare Tapa Whā and the Pasifika Fonofale health model.
This term we will be exploring the first layer of the self.... The Anna maya, physical layer. Nourished by food. Is the most gross and tangible layer of the 5 layers of the self. Below is the anna maya depicted as a bird... Hello Yogis, as promised below is a summary of the Yoga Sutra we studied last term.
If you are joining the class next term for the first time I may have asked you to take a look at this. Just to give you a little back ground, Patanjali, many, many years ago, brought together and systemized the many strands of yoga which were around at the time. He (she, they?) condensed them into aphorisms, which collectively are know as Patanjali Yoga Stutra. Below, on the left you can see is one the 29th aphorism from the second chapter of this work (hence Y.S 11.29) which are the eight limbs of yoga. Last term we looked at the first Limb, Yama (Y.S 11.30) which I have broken down with a very simple translation. Last term we dissected this a little more deeply. Next term we will be looking at the next limb of yoga, Niyama. As well as practicing asana (the movement element of a yoga practice) and Pranayama (the breathing practices). See you next term Namaste, Elise 1/23/2021 0 Comments Yoga Sūtra of PatañjaliOver this year I will be bringing to you some of the concepts from Yoga Sūtra of Patañjali.
This incredible work forms the framework on which I practice and teach. I am grateful to my teachers, the Krishnamacharya lineage and honour Patañjali for having brought these teachings to me and in turn to share with you. Namaste Elise |
